Marrakech is about to become a major stop on the international golf circuit, hosting two pivotal tournaments aimed at giving emerging talent a real shot at the big leagues. From June 19 to 22, the Samanah Golf Club will kick off the action, followed by a second tournament at Al Maaden Golf Resort from June 26 to 29. Both events are part of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) under the banner “Morocco Rising Stars” and serve as qualifiers for the prestigious International Series Morocco.
Each tournament will welcome 132 competitors, including 70 regulars from the ADT, 40 golfers representing the Arab Golf Federation, and a group of specially invited players. The two best performers across both events who have not already qualified will earn a coveted place in the International Series Morocco, scheduled for July 3 to 6 at Rabat’s Royal Golf Dar Es Salam on its renowned Red Course. With $125,000 in prize money available at each tournament, the stakes are high for those chasing a breakthrough.
The mission behind these events is clear: to offer promising players—particularly from the Arab world and Africa—a viable path toward professional success. Rahul Singh, who heads the International Series, emphasized that these aren’t just competitions—they’re stepping stones. He sees them as vital opportunities for up-and-coming golfers to measure themselves against international competition and gain the experience necessary to advance their careers.
Asian Tour Commissioner Cho Minn Thant echoed that sentiment, describing the Moroccan stop as a turning point for golf in North Africa. This marks the first time the ADT has ventured into Morocco, part of a broader strategic partnership with the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation, the Arab Golf Federation, and the Hassan II Trophy Association. The three-year collaboration is designed to lay a solid foundation for the sport’s growth in the region and to help shape a new generation of golf champions.
Morocco’s rise in the golf world is also being reflected in standout individual performances. One of the country’s brightest hopes, 21-year-old amateur Adam Bresnu, made headlines earlier this year with a stunning sixth-place finish at the high-profile PIF Saudi International—finishing ahead of top names like Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann.
The upcoming 2024 edition of the International Series Morocco promises to draw an impressive lineup, including stars from the LIV Golf circuit. Ben Campbell, last year’s champion and a key member of the Range Goats GC, will be back to defend his title. He’ll be joined by teammate Peter Uihlein, who secured two victories in 2023, former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, Asian Tour standout Jazz Janewattananond, and John Catlin, who currently tops the Order of Merit.
