Royal Air Maroc is upgrading its temperature-controlled cargo facilities at Mohammed V International Airport for the first time in 13 years. The work is aimed at handling more pharmaceuticals and perishable goods.

The 590-square-metre warehouse now has a fifth cold room. The space is divided into three import areas and two export areas, each set to the right temperature for the type of cargo. Imports include a 240 sq m room (2–8°C), an 85 sq m room (15–25°C), and a 25 sq m freezer. Export areas include a 140 sq m room (2–8°C) and a 100 sq m room (15–25°C).

The upgrade also adds energy-saving systems, with plans to switch to solar power. Royal Air Maroc says the improvements match its growing fleet and the rising demand for pharmaceutical logistics in Africa.

Mohammed V International Airport is a main hub linking Europe, the Americas, and Africa. The upgraded facilities will help handle sensitive cargo like vaccines and specialty medicines.

Morocco’s pharmaceutical industry is growing, exporting to more than 30 African countries. Local storage for vaccines and meeting international standards is becoming increasingly important.

The “Fresh Cargo” service manages perishable exports such as berries, flowers, and early-season vegetables. Keeping these items at the right temperature from regional airports to Casablanca is key to maintaining quality and price.

The new systems save energy and reduce carbon emissions, with solar power planned. The upgrade also supports Royal Air Maroc’s larger planes, making sure extra cargo can be handled smoothly.
