Royal Air Maroc is preparing to take a major strategic step as it expands its fleet, signaling a shift that includes a return to Airbus aircraft for the first time in years. According to industry sources cited by Reuters, the Moroccan flag carrier is close to finalizing a deal with the European manufacturer for the purchase of approximately 20 A220 jets.
This move is part of a broader modernization effort, in which Boeing remains the airline’s primary partner. RAM’s current fleet is largely composed of Boeing aircraft, and the airline is expected to announce additional orders for the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner models in the coming days. That announcement is likely to coincide with the Paris Air Show, scheduled for next week.
By diversifying its fleet with Airbus models, Royal Air Maroc is positioning itself to meet growing demand while optimizing performance on short- and medium-haul routes. The addition of the fuel-efficient A220 reflects the airline’s focus on both operational flexibility and sustainability, as it aims to strengthen its regional and international network in a highly competitive aviation landscape.
