Saham Bank has become the first bank in Africa to earn the EDGE MOVE certification, a global standard for gender equality at work.
The move comes as women remain rare in top jobs across the continent. Fewer than 1 in 10 senior executives are women, and more than half of African financial firms have no women at that level at all.
The certification, from EDGE Certification, is based on an independent review of how a company treats its staff. It looks at equal pay, fair hiring and promotions, training for women, flexible working, and whether staff feel included.
Saham Bank said it met all these standards, including closing pay gaps and giving women better chances to move into leadership roles.
The bank has also launched a campaign showing women in tough, high-pressure roles to challenge old ideas about what jobs women can do.
The announcement comes as investors pay more attention to how companies handle social issues. Experts say businesses with more balanced leadership often perform better and manage risks more effectively.
Saham Bank said gender equality is not just about fairness, but also about improving performance.
