Saïdia Mediterrania has just carved out a historic place for itself in African tourism, becoming the first destination on the continent to earn the prestigious Green Destinations Award. This global recognition celebrates the Moroccan seaside resort’s commitment to a sustainable development model, officially endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

The accolade was awarded during the 2025 Green Destinations Conference held in Montpellier, where Saïdia Mediterrania emerged as a standout destination. The resort collected not one, but three significant honors. It received the Bronze-level Green Destination Award, achieving a 6.4 out of 10 in its sustainability audit—a clear acknowledgment of its effective environmental management. It was also awarded the Quality Coast Award, spotlighting its efforts to preserve and protect coastal ecosystems. And perhaps most notably, it was named in the prestigious Top 100 Stories 2025 list, a global selection of destinations leading the way in responsible tourism.

These awards are the fruit of long-term work by the Saïdia Development Corporation, the entity behind the destination’s evolution. Their strategy integrates environmental care, economic growth, and local community involvement in a way that’s both ambitious and grounded. Their initiatives include efficient water and energy management, promotion of local cultural heritage, and inclusive community engagement—concrete actions that have placed Saïdia on the global sustainability map.

With this triple recognition, Saïdia Mediterrania is no longer just a beautiful Mediterranean getaway; it’s now a benchmark for sustainable tourism across the region. Its new status strengthens Morocco’s role as a key player in the global shift toward environmentally responsible travel and development.

Perched along Morocco’s northeastern coastline, Saïdia Mediterrania offers more than just sun-soaked beaches and scenic views near the biologically significant Moulouya River. The resort benefits from its proximity to Oujda and Nador airports and supports a nearly year-round tourism season. Visitors are drawn to its blend of outdoor sports, wellness retreats, business events, and leisure activities. With marinas, golf courses, a waterpark, and seafront promenades, the destination balances modern infrastructure with authentic Moroccan charm—while staying rooted in its natural surroundings.
