15,000 flood victims in Morocco to receive cash aid

Fifteen thousand families have received direct financial support worth 6,000 dirhams each after recent floods in the north and west of Morocco, the government has announced.

The aid was confirmed in Rabat by the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, following the weekly Council of Government meeting.

The 6,000 dirhams payment is aimed at families forced to leave their homes due to flood risks and move to safer areas. Authorities said the priority is to ensure the funds reach eligible households quickly and efficiently.

The floods followed a series of severe storms that brought record rainfall in a short period, causing flash flooding, damage to rural homes and disruption to transport links.

Under government measures, households that returned to homes damaged by the floods will receive 15,000 dirhams to cover repair work. The same amount will also be granted to affected shops and small businesses to help them reopen.

Families whose homes fully collapsed, particularly in rural areas, will receive 140,000 dirhams per dwelling. The payments will be based on assessments by local authorities and are intended to support reconstruction.

The floods also damaged roads, bridges and rural tracks. Relevant ministries, working with local authorities, have begun rehabilitation and repair operations according to the scale of the damage.

Officials say the wider recovery effort focuses on immediate assistance, restoring key infrastructure and supporting longer-term rebuilding to improve resilience against future extreme weather.
