In Geneva, during the 9th United Nations Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection held from July 7 to 11, Morocco showcased its expertise in regulating agri-food supply chains. Ahmed Rahhou, President of the Moroccan Competition Council, presented the country’s ongoing efforts to boost price transparency, streamline distribution networks, and remove barriers to fair competition.

Speaking before participants from around the world, Rahhou highlighted the Council’s studies aimed at supporting these reforms, while emphasizing Morocco’s strategic role as a major producer and exporter of fruits and vegetables. He also underscored the country’s active involvement in key pan-African initiatives such as the Atlantic Initiative and South-South cooperation, both designed to strengthen food security across the continent.

Particular attention was given to the role of the OCP Group, whose supply of fertilizers tailored to African agriculture was presented as a crucial factor in safeguarding food sovereignty for countries in the Global South.

Throughout the conference, international cooperation and solidarity were reaffirmed as essential pillars for achieving sustainable development, especially for the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Held every five years by UNCTAD, this conference is the leading global forum for discussing the rules that govern anti-competitive practices. It brings together ministers, competition authorities, consumer protection agencies, and senior officials from across the globe. Morocco’s delegation included representatives from the Competition Council, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and its Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.
