BCP reaffirms energy efficiency leadership with ISO 50001 certification

The Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) has successfully renewed its ISO 50001 certification, now upgraded to the 2018 version, covering both its headquarters and the Diouri Data Center. This achievement highlights the bank’s steadfast commitment to promoting energy efficiency, sustainable management practices, and reducing its carbon footprint by incorporating renewable energy solutions.

This renewal marks a pivotal milestone in BCP’s eight-year journey toward sustainability. It reinforces the bank’s role as a leader in energy management while demonstrating its commitment to aligning with international best practices and addressing environmental challenges.

Since 2016, BCP has operated under an Energy Management System (EMS) that complies with ISO 50001 standards. This system has helped the bank achieve continuous improvements in energy performance. In 2023, BCP revised its energy policy to align with the 2018 version of ISO 50001, integrating advanced technologies and eco-conscious management strategies into its operations. These efforts have been transformative, resulting in a 17% reduction in electricity costs and significant progress in optimizing energy consumption.

Modernizing lighting systems, transitioning to energy-saving LED technologies, and adopting intelligent energy management systems have played key roles in reducing consumption. Additionally, infrastructure upgrades, including the use of energy recovery technologies and innovative cooling solutions for data centers, have contributed to improved efficiency. The bank’s embrace of renewable energy, such as solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, has further strengthened its commitment to sustainable practices. Since implementing these measures in 2016, BCP has achieved cumulative energy savings valued at 104 million MAD, underscoring its alignment with Morocco’s environmental objectives and global standards.

The deployment of the EMS has enabled BCP to optimize its energy efficiency continuously and identify new opportunities for improvement. This approach reinforces the bank’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining operational excellence.

The renewed ISO 50001 certification confirms BCP’s determination to expand its energy strategy. By 2024, the bank plans to extend its sustainability efforts to additional sites, further enhancing its impact and consolidating its reputation as a trailblazer in energy management.

This accomplishment reflects BCP’s broader vision of combining environmental responsibility, innovative practices, and operational excellence to generate positive outcomes for Morocco’s economy and society.
