CAF President Patrice Motsepe has praised Morocco for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Speaking at the Africa Forward summit in Nairobi, he said Morocco deserves “immense respect” for organising the tournament.

Figures shared at the summit show how big the event was. The tournament reached 2.5 billion TV viewers and created 6.2 billion online interactions in 118 countries. It also brought in nearly €2bn for Morocco’s economy.

New data shows the competition was the most commercially successful AFCON ever. Revenues grew by 90% compared with earlier editions, helped by a record 23 sponsors. Matches were broadcast by 111 rights holders, up from 67 in 2023.

Online engagement was very strong. The tournament generated 5.2 billion video views. TikTok saw more than one million fan videos using the official hashtag. Stadium attendance went over 1.25 million across nine venues. The final in Rabat sold out with 66,526 fans.

Motsepe linked the success to Morocco’s recent football progress. He pointed to the national team reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Officials say Morocco has already met 80% of the requirements to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will co-host the 2027 edition from 19 June to 17 July.
