For the first time in its history, the African Grand Prix left the city of Marrakech behind and landed in Casablanca—bringing with it three days of high-stakes racing, international connections, and a growing reputation that now extends across the continent. The fourth edition of the event, held in Morocco’s bustling economic capital, marked a new milestone in the evolution of African horse racing.
The festivities began at the Bouskoura Horse City with an opening ceremony attended by Ahmed El Bouari, Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests. From there, the action moved to the Casa-Anfa Racetrack, where elite jockeys, racing professionals, and lottery officials from across Africa gathered. This year’s event was organized by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse (SOREC), in partnership with the African Lotteries Association—a blend of sport and diplomacy that underscored the event’s broader ambitions.
Omar Skalli, Director General of SOREC, praised the event as a powerful symbol of African unity and progress in the racing and gaming sectors. “The 2025 African Grand Prix continues its upward trajectory. It’s become a flagship platform for horse racing and gaming professionals throughout Africa,” he said, acknowledging the enthusiasm of the crowd and the commitment of long-standing partners.
That sentiment was echoed by Dramane Coulibaly, President of the African Lotteries Association, who spotlighted Morocco’s leadership in the equine industry. “Year after year, the African Grand Prix gains momentum. Thanks to the dedication of SOREC and its partners, Morocco is once again affirming its position as a continental frontrunner,” he noted.
The final day, held at the Casa-Anfa track, offered a thrilling conclusion, with eight races showcasing the continent’s top talent. In the marquee race—an intense 1,900-meter battle—Casa de Campo, ridden by Zouhair Madihi, surged ahead of Citykhali Fal and Misteriously to take a decisive win. The crowd erupted in applause as the Moroccan jockey crossed the finish line in commanding fashion.
Other standout performances added to the excitement. Omar Lakjal guided Lity Hiro to victory in the SOREC race, while Boltril, ridden by Kacem Faddoul, dominated the PMU event. Dunapolis, with Abderrahim Faddoul in the saddle, clinched the African Fraternity race. Iron Fal, steered by Khalid Jbilou, impressed in the Cité du Cheval race. Redouane Bendia and Ejlale took top honors in the ALA race, while Djerza Maamora won the Premier Gateway International competition. And in a heartwarming finale, rising star Mohamed El Mamy claimed victory in the jockey schools race with his mount Ortensé.
With 13 nations represented, this year’s edition fulfilled its goal of being a truly pan-African event. More than just a sporting spectacle, the African Grand Prix reinforced its mission to connect the continent’s national lotteries and horse racing professionals. It also cemented Morocco’s role as a central hub for gaming and equestrian excellence in Africa.
