On Thursday, September 12, Morocco recorded a confirmed case of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
In its official statement, the Ministry revealed that the infected individual is currently receiving appropriate medical care at a specialized health center in Marrakech. The patient’s condition is stable, and they are under continuous medical observation, following national and international health protocols.
The Ministry further explained that strict quarantine and monitoring measures were promptly enacted once the case was confirmed through laboratory testing. This includes tracking all individuals who may have been in contact with the infected person, ensuring their close supervision to prevent any potential spread of the virus.
Both national and regional public health centers, alongside rapid response teams, have initiated thorough epidemiological investigations to compile a complete list of these contacts. Fortunately, at this point, none of them have exhibited any symptoms of the illness.
In line with global safety standards, these preventative measures aim to control the virus’s spread. The Ministry emphasized that the public will be regularly updated on the evolving situation. Additionally, citizens are encouraged to follow recommended preventive practices such as frequent handwashing, avoiding contact with infected or suspected individuals, and maintaining good personal hygiene.
The health department, led by Khalid Aït Taleb, remains vigilant and assures that it will maintain transparency with ongoing public communications.
