Dacia has unveiled a new Spring electric car with more space, more power and a new European production base. The second-generation Spring will be built in Slovenia instead of China. It will be the first of four fully electric Dacia models planned by 2030. More than 210,000 Spring cars have been sold in more than 40 countries since the first model was launched in 2021.
The new car is bigger than the current version. It is about 15cm longer and 18cm wider, giving passengers more space. The boot can hold 337 litres, rising to 1,283 litres when the rear seats are folded.
The new Spring has an 80hp electric motor producing 175Nm of torque. It can reach 100km/h from a standstill in 12.1 seconds and has a top speed of 130km/h.
It uses a 27.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Dacia gives it a maximum WLTP range of 250km.
The standard 6.6kW charger takes about nine hours to charge the battery from 15% to 80% using a normal household socket. A 7kW wallbox cuts the time to two hours and 55 minutes.
A faster charging option can charge the same range in about 28 minutes using a 50kW DC charger. The option also allows the car to power external devices through vehicle-to-load charging.
Dacia has also added more technology inside the car. All versions get a 7-inch digital instrument display. The higher Journey version has a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected navigation and a reversing camera.
Dacia says the new Spring is the first model to use Renault Group’s new development programmes.
“New Spring is the first Dacia to benefit from Renault Group’s new development programmes, intending to speed up the vehicle design cycle and cut development time to under two years, while also reducing design costs.”
The new Spring will be sold in Europe in Expression and Journey versions. Both versions use the same 80hp motor and 27.5kWh battery.
Prices will remain below €20,000 before government subsidies. The Expression version will cost less than €18,000.
Dacia has also changed where the car is made. Production will move to the Revoz plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. The previous Spring was made in China.
The company says the new platform gives the car access to Renault Group’s latest electric technology.
“With the RG-EV small platform, New Spring gains the latest e-technologies by Renault Group, a pioneer in this field, continuously seeking to make the best technology accessible to as many people as possible.”
The current Spring remains on sale in Morocco. Dacia’s local website lists a 65hp version with up to 220km of range and a starting price of 215,000 dirhams.
Dacia has not yet published the price or launch date for the new Spring in Morocco.
