Damane Payment launches #PaymentTalks to explain digital payments

Damane Payment has launched a new series to help people and businesses better understand digital payments. The series, called #PaymentTalks, will explain payment tools and fintech concepts in simple, practical terms. The first episode looks at the electronic payment terminal, or TPE, which allows businesses to accept card payments.

A TPE connects a business to payment networks and checks each transaction before the payment goes through. It also encrypts card data to keep customer information safe.

The terminal can also create digital receipts and sales records, making it easier for business owners to keep track of their daily transactions.

More #PaymentTalks episodes will cover other digital payment tools and financial technologies.

The launch comes as the payment sector is opening up to more competition and new services.

Damane Cash, a Bank of Africa subsidiary, created Damane Payment as its merchant payment brand. The company offers payment terminals and other digital payment services to businesses.

Bank Al-Maghrib and the Competition Council have opened the card payment acquiring market to new players. Payment institutions can now offer their own terminals and payment services directly to businesses.

Bank Al-Maghrib will also cut the domestic interchange fee cap from 0.65% to 0.50% in October 2026.

Small proximity merchants and government services will have a lower cap of 0.15%.

The lower fees could make card payments cheaper for businesses and encourage more shops to accept electronic payments.

Payment providers are also looking at ways to reduce the cost of accepting card payments.

One option is SoftPOS, which turns an NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet into a contactless payment terminal. Businesses do not need to buy a separate payment machine.

Damane Payment offers both TPEs and SoftPOS solutions.

Its services also include Damane Pay M-Wallet, which lets users send money to each other, pay bills and taxes, and make QR-code payments. The service works with the national Maroc Pay system.

The company also offers prepaid cards linked to mobile payment accounts, online payment gateways and agent banking services.

Its network has more than 800 agencies, where customers can make cash deposits and withdrawals, send money abroad and exchange currencies.

Damane Payment holds a payment institution licence from Bank Al-Maghrib. It also has DGSSI accreditation, PCI-DSS certification and CMI interoperability certification.

The #PaymentTalks series will continue with more content explaining digital payment services and how people and businesses can use them.
