Eid al-Adha set for Saturday, June 7

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has officially announced that the month of Dhu al-Hijjah will begin on Thursday, May 29. This means Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar, will take place on Saturday, June 7.

The announcement follows an unsuccessful attempt to spot the new moon on Tuesday evening, which would have signaled the end of Dhu al-Qi’dah. Since the crescent was not visible, the current lunar month will be extended to a full 30 days, in line with traditional Islamic lunar calendar practices.

As a result, the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah will fall on Thursday. Eid al-Adha, which is observed on the 10th day of this sacred month, is now officially set for the following Saturday, giving worshippers just over a week to prepare for the holiday known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
