From Casablanca to Paris: Comediablanca sets sights on international expansion

The second edition of Comediablanca came to a triumphant close at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca, leaving a sold-out crowd thoroughly entertained. What began as a bold initiative by Tendansia—founded by Saad Lahjouji and Myriam Bouyad—has quickly evolved into a key cultural event in Morocco’s comedy landscape. With over 8,000 people attending across two laughter-filled nights, Comediablanca has cemented itself as an essential stop on the country’s humor circuit.

The atmosphere was electric from the very start. Every seat was taken, and waves of applause and laughter filled the venue, underscoring a growing appetite for live comedy in the country’s economic capital. The lineup blended seasoned headliners with rising stars, curating an experience that felt both polished and fresh. The result was more than just a series of performances—it was a celebration of collective joy.

On May 29, Moroccan comedy legend Hanane El Fadili set the tone with her unmatched energy and spot-on impersonations. She was joined on stage by Oussama Ramzi, the duo Driss & Mehdi, Ayoub Idri, Said & Wadie, Ghita Kitane, Simo Sedraty, and Mohammed Fatih—each delivering sets that left lasting impressions. The following evening, French-Moroccan comedian Roman Frayssinet captivated the audience with his offbeat stand-up, paving the way for a night of diverse humor featuring Mimo Lazrak, Meryem Benoua, Oualas, Coco Makmak, Sarah Lélé, Ethan Lallouz, and master impersonator Erick Baert. The range of comedic styles—from surreal sketches to sharp observational humor—kept the energy high and the audience fully engaged.

Beyond the performances, the Comediablanca Village offered festival-goers a full sensory experience. With an eclectic food court, a designer market, and lounge areas for gaming and relaxation, the space encouraged interaction and discovery. Live improvisation jams, comedy battles, and interactive showcases added another layer of engagement, creating a real sense of community between artists and their audience.

The visual identity of this year’s edition played a crucial role in setting the mood. Designed by Amir Rouani, the staging mixed retro aesthetics with Moroccan pop culture to create a vibrant and immersive environment. Carefully crafted sets, dynamic lighting, and striking visuals helped elevate each act and gave the festival its distinctive flair.

With the resounding success of this second edition, Comediablanca is looking beyond Morocco’s borders. The third installment is already scheduled to take place at the iconic Olympia in Paris, signaling the start of an international journey. Long-term goals include expanding into other African countries and launching a dedicated comedy school aimed at nurturing talent and professionalizing the comedy scene in Morocco.
