GNV, the maritime company under the MSC Group, is gearing up to significantly expand its ferry operations between Spain and Morocco next summer by introducing a new fleet of larger, more modern vessels. This move aims to ease travel across the western Mediterranean and provide a smoother, more comfortable experience for passengers, especially Moroccans living abroad who often return home during the busy summer months.

The announcement was made during the 2026 edition of FITUR, Madrid’s International Tourism Fair, where GNV outlined its plans to progressively roll out these new ships. The company emphasized that the transition will be carefully coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure a seamless integration into existing operations. The initiative also involves strengthened collaboration with port operators, diplomatic entities, and government ministries in both Spain and Morocco.

Central to this strategy is a focus on upgrading port infrastructure and modernizing logistics services. GNV aims to meet growing mobility demands while aligning with environmental goals and sustainability standards. These enhancements are particularly relevant given the sharp increase in ferry traffic during peak travel periods, as well as heightened expectations for efficient and eco-conscious maritime travel.

One key route set to benefit from the new vessels is the link between Spain and the Moroccan port of Tanger Med—a crucial gateway for both passenger and freight traffic. Preparations are already underway between GNV and Moroccan authorities to ensure all technical and logistical elements are in place for operations to begin in time for the summer season.

Since its founding in 1992, GNV has grown into a major player in Mediterranean shipping, now operating 33 routes across eight countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Spain, France, Italy, and Malta. Its ongoing expansion is part of a broader strategy aimed at boosting regional connectivity while reducing the environmental impact of maritime transport.
