In Casablanca on Monday, the Moroccan Exporters Association welcomed a delegation from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, part of its ongoing drive to broaden market horizons and strengthen international partnerships. Led by Daniel Lam, the Council’s regional director for the Middle East and Africa, the visiting group also included marketing executive Nassif Jorge Mahfoud.
The meeting, chaired by Hassan Sentissi El Idrissi along with Mohamed Chakib Rifi, who heads the Asia Commission of the Moroccan exporters’ association, was designed to build bridges between the business communities of Morocco and Hong Kong. Both sides were keen to explore new avenues for cooperation and to lay the groundwork for deeper economic ties.
Moroccan representatives highlighted the country’s many advantages as a business hub. They pointed to Morocco’s strategic geographic location, its political stability, its favorable business environment, and its attractive legal framework. Particular emphasis was placed on Morocco’s growing role as a gateway to Africa, especially in light of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which positions the country as a key player in facilitating trade across the continent.
For their part, the Hong Kong officials expressed strong interest in Morocco’s economic potential, particularly in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, agribusiness, and services. Both sides identified a number of promising areas where collaboration could be expanded, with the aim of deepening the economic partnership between Morocco and Hong Kong.
Ideas discussed included organizing business delegations from Hong Kong to visit Morocco, increasing Moroccan exporters’ participation in major trade fairs hosted in Hong Kong, and exchanging market intelligence and investment opportunities. These initiatives are intended to boost trade flows, enhance networking, and encourage the creation of high-value joint projects.
Both organizations committed to maintaining ongoing dialogue and to setting up a structured action plan to support businesses in both regions. The goal is to create a climate that encourages investment and fosters joint development projects that benefit both sides.
This renewed engagement is part of the Moroccan Exporters Association’s broader strategy to forge stronger connections with key Asian markets and help Moroccan companies expand into dynamic new territories. From Hong Kong’s perspective, Morocco is seen as a strategic partner in its bid to increase its footprint in Africa and to promote joint ventures built on shared strengths.
Established in 1966, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council focuses on promoting Hong Kong’s trade links around the world. With a network of 51 offices worldwide, including 13 in mainland China, the organization supports businesses—particularly small and medium-sized enterprises—through trade fairs, forums, and market intelligence services.
