Intense heatwave expected across Morocco from saturday to monday

The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange alert, warning of a severe heatwave expected to hit several provinces in Morocco from Saturday to Monday. Temperatures are forecasted to soar between 42 and 47°C during this period.

Over the weekend, temperatures are anticipated to range from 42 to 44°C in the provinces of Ouezzane, Moulay Yacoub, Fès, Taza, Sefrou, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Khénifra, Azilal, Khouribga, and Al Haouz.

The heatwave will be even more intense in the provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Béni Mellal, Settat, Marrakech, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, and Oued Ed-Dahab, where temperatures are expected to range between 43 and 47°C.

On Monday, the scorching temperatures between 43 and 47°C will continue to affect the provinces of Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab, according to the DGM.

Residents in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the extreme heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and checking on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and young children.
