Lucid Motors eyes Morocco as next EV expansion hub after Gulf success

Lucid Motors, the American electric vehicle manufacturer known for its sleek, high-performance cars, is eyeing Morocco as a potential new frontier in its regional expansion strategy. After solidifying its presence in the Gulf, the California-based company is now turning its attention to North Africa, with the Kingdom of Morocco emerging as a key candidate for future growth.

Speaking at Giga Africa 2025, Faisal Sultan, Lucid Motors’ President for the Middle East, confirmed the company’s intention to extend its operations beyond the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. While Lucid remains focused on strengthening its position in its core Gulf markets, Sultan emphasized that Morocco is firmly on the company’s radar as a strategic next step.

Lucid has already built a robust footprint across several Gulf nations, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and, most notably, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi market is by far the company’s strongest in the region, accounting for an estimated 60 to 62 percent of all local EV demand. Sultan expressed confidence that this dominance will continue, noting that the UAE contributes another 20 percent, while the remaining Gulf nations make up the balance.

To better serve these markets, Lucid is preparing to roll out a retail agency model tailored to each country’s unique characteristics. This approach would give the company more control over its distribution network while allowing for flexibility in adapting to different regulatory and consumer environments.

On the financial front, Lucid is showing steady momentum. The company reported $259.4 million in revenue for the second quarter, up from $235 million in the previous quarter and a significant rise compared to $200.6 million during the same period last year. In terms of global vehicle deliveries, Lucid sold 3,309 units in Q2, slightly above the 3,109 vehicles delivered in the first quarter.

The Middle East has become a key driver of that growth. Revenue from the region surged from $7.8 million in Q1 to $36.6 million in Q2. The lion’s share of this—$35.9 million—came from Saudi Arabia alone. Meanwhile, the UAE, which only began receiving deliveries in late 2024, contributed an additional $700,000.

As Lucid builds momentum across the Gulf, Morocco stands poised to become the company’s next major move in the broader MENA landscape, offering a gateway to North African markets and further diversifying its international reach.
