The Competition Council’s Standing Committee convened on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., under the leadership of Council President Ahmed Rahhou. During the meeting, a major business deal received the green light: Marjane Holding will now become a co-owner of Pathé Californie Casablanca SAS. The agreement allows Marjane to acquire a 60% stake in the cinema complex located in the Californie Mall, while Pathé Cinémas retains the remaining 40%.
This move marks Marjane’s official entry into the movie theater industry—a new chapter for a company best known for its dominance in retail and commercial real estate. The acquisition signals a strategic shift as Marjane seeks to broaden its offerings by weaving entertainment into its commercial spaces. The Pathé Californie Casablanca multiplex, which already features eight fully operational screens, is now poised to serve as a model for future developments. The partnership sets the stage for potential rollouts of similar cinema experiences at other Marjane locations across the country.
For Marjane, this step is part of a broader transformation strategy: reimagining its shopping centers as dynamic lifestyle hubs where retail blends seamlessly with entertainment and culture. Pathé brings with it a wealth of global experience in cinema management and has already established a strong presence in Morocco with the launch of its IMAX 4DX theater at the same Californie Mall site in December 2023.
