The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) has received close to 40 project proposals from various regions of the Kingdom, just six months after the government issued a directive to implement the “Morocco Offer” for the development of the green hydrogen sector.
During a steering committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, the methodology for evaluating and selecting these projects was reviewed, with a focus on establishing rigorous criteria. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the high number of project proposals reflects strong interest and active engagement from both domestic and international investors in the energy sector. The “Morocco Offer” is viewed as competitive, integrated, transparent, and practical.
The interest shown by investors spans the entire country, from northern Morocco to its southern provinces. In alignment with Royal Directives, the Moroccan government has allocated approximately 1 million hectares of public land to encourage and support project developers in this promising sector. The government is committed to ensuring the responsible and optimal use of this public land through contractual frameworks.
The committee also reviewed the progress of various initiatives related to the operationalization of the “Morocco Offer” for green hydrogen, in accordance with the Royal Directives. These directives emphasize the need for a swift and high-quality implementation of the offer to leverage Morocco’s strengths in this area and to best accommodate the projects proposed by global investors in this burgeoning field.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior; Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance; Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water; Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade; Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies; Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the Budget; Tarik Moufaddal, CEO of MASEN; and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.
