Moroccan Investment Experience in Ethiopia and Africa Highlighted in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa – Morocco’s investment experience in Ethiopia and the potential of Moroccan companies in Africa within the framework of South-South cooperation advocated by HM King Mohammed VI have been highlighted on Friday evening in Addis Ababa on the occasion of the launch of the first edition of the networking platform for foreign investors in this East African country.

Morocco, which is the first country to be invited to this important series of consultations and interaction between foreign investors and relevant Ethiopian authorities at the initiative of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, was commended for the huge achievements undertaken under the leadership of His Majesty the King in the political, industrial and agricultural sectors, in addition to the progress made in energy, health, finance, road, port and airport infrastructure and scientific research, which were highlighted in a documentary screened before several investors, diplomats accredited in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian decision-makers and media representatives.

“We have the privilege of being the first country invited to a series of consultations and interaction between foreign investors and the competent Ethiopian authorities through the creation of this platform,” said the Ambassador of the Morocco to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Nezha Alaoui M’Hammdi, who presented the experience and expertise of the Kingdom in investment in Ethiopia and other African brotherly countries.

The Moroccan diplomat shed light on the Moroccan investment experience through the flagship project of the OCP Group to build a fertilizer plant in Dire Dawa which will reach 3.7 billion dollars after its second phase and the presence of others Moroccan companies in Ethiopia.

This large-scale project, recalled Ms. Alaoui M’Hammdi, was initiated during the historic visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Ethiopia in 2016 and whose final realization took place two weeks ago through the signing of an agreement between OCP and the Ethiopian government.

Ethiopia and Morocco have become, thanks to a mutual will and efforts, two strategic partners not only at the continental level but also at the international level, noted the Moroccan diplomat, adding that Morocco seeks to turn its partnership with Addis Ababa into a model to follow, especially since the two countries share the same vision of the development of Africa as well as of South-South cooperation.
