Starting October 17, Morocco will welcome its first direct air connection to Iceland, courtesy of Iceland’s low-cost airline, Play Airlines. The route, linking Reykjavik and Marrakech, will offer two weekly flights, according to the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). This new direct service is part of a strategic partnership between ONMT and Play Airlines, aimed at boosting tourism from Iceland and North America.
Through Reykjavik’s strategic hub, which connects Scandinavia and Western Europe to North America, Play Airlines will also link Morocco to key North American cities. The airline operates out of five major airports: New York, Washington, Baltimore, Boston, and Toronto. This will offer seamless travel opportunities between the U.S., Canada, and Morocco, making Marrakech more accessible than ever to North American travelers.
Iceland is a growing strategic market for Morocco, and the ONMT has been active in promoting the country in Scandinavia. One upcoming initiative is the “Light Tour” in May 2024, where over 150 Scandinavian tourism operators will be introduced to Moroccan destinations across four Scandinavian capitals.
To further enhance connectivity, the ONMT has doubled air capacity between Morocco and Scandinavia for the winter 2024 season, establishing historic partnerships with key Northern European airlines. The expanded flight program includes 21 weekly direct flights from Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, and Reykjavik to Morocco’s top destinations—Marrakech and Agadir.
