Morocco’s Ministry of Economy and Finance has a new face at the helm of one of its key departments, with Mohammed Tarik Bchir appointed to lead the Treasury and External Finance Department (DTFE).

The change was marked at an official ceremony in Rabat, attended by senior ministry officials and partners, where the handover was made public.

The Finance Minister welcomed Bchir to his new post and said the department plays a central role in the country’s economic work. It helps bring in funding from abroad for major projects, oversees parts of the financial system, and supports government reforms.

She said she had full confidence in his ability to take on the job as the department deals with important financial challenges ahead.

The event also recognised the work of outgoing director Fouzia Zaaboul, with thanks given for her years of service and her leadership of the department.

The minister closed the ceremony by wishing Bchir success in his new role as he takes over a unit seen as vital to Morocco’s financial planning.
