Morocco welcomed nearly 9.4 million tourists in the first six months of 2026, up 6% from the same period last year as visitor numbers and travel spending continued to grow. Travel revenue reached nearly MAD 53.8 billion by the end of May, a 14.6% increase from a year earlier, according to the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF).

France remained the biggest source market, with arrivals rising 9%. Germany recorded a 14% increase, while visitor numbers also grew from Belgium (+9%), the Netherlands (+10%), Italy (+6%), Poland (+32%), the United Kingdom (+4%) and the United States (+9%).

Tourism activity stayed strong during the first quarter of 2026. The sector’s value added grew by 8.1%, following an 8.7% increase during the same period in 2025.

Hotels and other classified tourist accommodation recorded 9% more overnight stays by the end of May, after a 12.4% increase a year earlier.

Ouarzazate saw the strongest growth in overnight stays at 24%. Rabat followed with an 18% increase, ahead of Agadir (13%), Casablanca (12%), Marrakech (10%), Tangier (8%), Errachidia (8%), Fez (7%), Essaouira (6%) and Al Haouz (4%).

The latest figures show tourism continued to expand in the first half of the year, with more visitors, higher spending and strong demand across several of the country’s top destinations.
