The US Air Force has awarded Pratt & Whitney a contract worth up to $19.3m to provide technical support for military engines used by Morocco and 10 other countries. The contract was awarded on 8 September and will run until March 2029. It will provide engineering support and technical advice to teams responsible for maintaining the engines.
Morocco uses Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 engines in its F-16 fighter jets. The same engine is used by several other US military partners.
The contract was awarded directly to Pratt & Whitney without a competitive tender. The company makes the F100 engine and owns the technical knowledge and data needed to support it.
The work is part of the US Foreign Military Sales programme. It is designed to help countries keep their aircraft ready for use while building up their own maintenance and engineering skills.
The deal follows several major US defence agreements involving Morocco.
In 2019, the US approved a possible $3.787bn sale of 25 F-16 Block 72 fighter jets, along with 29 F100-PW-229 engines.
The US Air Force awarded Raytheon Technologies, now part of RTX, a $212m contract in 2021 to produce engines and related equipment for those aircraft.
The Defense Logistics Agency also awarded Pratt & Whitney a separate $470m contract in March 2026 to remanufacture F100 engine modules for foreign military customers.
A US Defence Security Cooperation Agency document said the F-16 programme would improve Morocco’s ability to work with the US and other allies.
“The proposed sale will contribute to Morocco’s self-defence capabilities. The purchase will improve interoperability with the United States and other regional allies and enhance Morocco’s ability to undertake coalition operations… Morocco already operates an F-16 fleet and will have no difficulty absorbing this aircraft and services into its armed forces.”
The new contract comes as Pratt & Whitney expands its presence in Morocco’s aerospace industry.
The company has invested more than 715m dirhams, or over $71m, in a factory at the Midparc aerospace zone near Casablanca.
The 130,000-square-foot site makes components for commercial aircraft engines, including the company’s GTF engine family.
