Authorities in Khenifra have launched an emergency plan after the water level of the Oum Er-Rbia river rose as it passes through the city. The aim is to keep people safe and protect homes and property as the risk of flooding increases.
On Sunday, teams moved into the field with support from civil protection services and other public bodies. They focused on risky areas along the riverbanks, especially in neighbourhoods close to the water and near smaller streams that could add to the flow.
Monitoring has been stepped up, with more patrols and checks to follow changes in the water level around the clock. Preventive action is a priority as officials prepare for any sudden rise.
The steps are part of an emergency plan led by a local monitoring committee. It includes constant checks, sharing of information, and early warning measures. Coordination between local councils and technical teams has also been strengthened to allow a quick response.
At the same time, workers have cleared drains and rainwater channels and fixed damage caused by recent bad weather to keep water and sewage services running.
Authorities in Khenifra say the alert will remain in place until the situation returns to normal, with public safety and protection of property the main focus.
