Morocco’s National Lottery Management Company (SGLN) has issued an urgent warning after spotting a rise in online scams pretending to be the official lottery. Fraudsters are using fake ads on social media and websites to trick people into downloading illegal apps or giving away personal and banking information.

“These offers claiming to be the National Lottery are fake and illegal,” the SGLN said. “These platforms don’t protect players, and there’s no guarantee you’ll get your money or winnings.”

SGLN reminded the public that it is the only legal operator of lottery games in Morocco. All official lottery games and apps are available only through the SGLN website, www.eloterie.ma, or verified social media accounts. People are urged to avoid unofficial apps or websites, never share personal or banking details online, and stick to official lottery channels.

The SGLN is working with police and telecom regulators to stop these scams. They stressed that lottery money funds social and community projects across Morocco. Fraudsters are not just stealing money—they are taking funds meant for public welfare.

The warning also listed signs of scams, such as websites that don’t use official SGLN addresses like loterie.ma or eloterie.ma, requests for credit card numbers or bank PINs online, or apps that aren’t downloaded from official sources.

Illegal online gambling has grown in Morocco and North Africa, often run from countries with weak regulations. These “grey market” sites use fake logos to seem legitimate and trick people into playing. Moroccan authorities are stepping up enforcement under the country’s cybercrime laws. The Moroccan Computer Emergency Response Team (maCERT) helps track and take down these fake sites, protecting users from fraud and keeping lottery funds secure.
