Morocco has claimed the top spot in African sailing by winning the 2025 African Team Championship in the Optimist class, a major triumph that unfolded in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The event, held from August 1 to 10, marks a significant milestone for Moroccan sailing, solidifying its emergence as a rising force on the continental stage.

From the opening day, the Moroccan team set the tone with a commanding performance, outpacing strong competitors from Angola and South Africa, who finished second and third respectively. The Moroccan sailors demonstrated both technical precision and an impressive team dynamic, leaving little doubt about their dominance in the team races.

Made up of five young sailors supported by a seasoned coaching staff, the Moroccan delegation showcased the results of a long-term development strategy led by the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation. Years of investment in training programs, talent identification, and athlete support are now clearly paying off, with this victory highlighting the federation’s commitment to building a sustainable and competitive sailing ecosystem.

Attention now turns to the individual events, scheduled for August 7 and 8, where Moroccan athletes are expected to continue their strong run. With momentum on their side, the team will be aiming for more podium finishes, reinforcing their status as serious contenders in African sailing.

This collective win not only elevates Morocco’s position in the sport but also sends a powerful message about the potential of its youth. For the national federation, it’s more than just a medal—it’s a clear indicator that Moroccan sailing is on a promising trajectory, powered by discipline, teamwork, and strategic planning.
