Morocco is introducing a new electronic travel authorization system ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), in a move aimed at streamlining visitor entry while tightening border controls. The system, known as the Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM), will be mandatory for select nationalities from September 25, 2025, to January 25, 2026.

The temporary requirement applies specifically to nationals from Algeria, Senegal, Gabon, Tunisia, Niger, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Cape Verde. Even travelers from these countries who are typically visa-exempt will now need to apply in advance for entry during the tournament period.

To facilitate the process, two application routes have been established. Football fans can use the YALLA app—developed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF)—which bundles everything into one streamlined experience. Through the app, supporters can purchase match tickets, book accommodations, obtain their Fan-ID, and secure the AEVM in a few steps. For non-spectators, a separate online platform will be launched to handle standard AEVM applications.

Certain categories of travelers are excluded from the requirement altogether. These include holders of diplomatic passports, Moroccan residents, foreign spouses of Moroccan nationals, and travelers over the age of 55.

The initiative is designed to balance accessibility and security, ensuring a smoother experience for visitors during one of Africa’s most celebrated sporting events while maintaining efficient and secure border management.
