As the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco in 2025, the country’s national security forces have launched a comprehensive and highly coordinated security operation designed to support the smooth unfolding of this major continental event. Every element of the plan has been meticulously crafted to ensure safety and order from the tournament’s first whistle.

On Sunday afternoon, following the symbolic launch of the tournament in Rabat by King Mohammed VI, Abdellatif Hammouchi—Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance—visited the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex for an on-site inspection. Accompanied by Rabat’s police chief and top security officials, Hammouchi reviewed all aspects of the security system deployed for the opening match between Morocco and Comoros.

His inspection focused on ensuring seamless access for fans, effective crowd flow management around the stadium, and optimal safety measures both inside and outside the venue. He paid particular attention to spectator areas, traffic routes, and key control points around the facility.

During the visit, officials provided him with detailed briefings on the command centers connected to an advanced surveillance camera network, as well as the temporary police station installed within the stadium. This unit is tasked with strict enforcement of regulations governing large-scale sporting events.

In parallel with these efforts, Moroccan authorities have launched a new African police cooperation center. This facility brings together representatives from the security forces of all participating nations, along with delegates from FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Interpol, and security experts from Qatar, Portugal, and Spain. Its main purpose is to enable real-time information sharing and to streamline cross-border coordination throughout the tournament.

Each match is subject to a tailored security plan, adjusted based on expected attendance and the specific nature of the fixture. The General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) has extended these measures to every host city, securing public areas designated for fan gatherings and deploying additional human and technical resources where needed.

Border control has also been ramped up, with a noticeable increase in personnel at Morocco’s key entry points to manage the influx of international visitors. Meanwhile, stadium security staff have received specialized training to maintain order within the venues.

The DGSN has continued to strengthen its dedicated sports policing units, improving both logistics and personnel, and enhancing their visibility to ensure a steady and visible presence throughout the competition.

This large-scale mobilization reflects Morocco’s commitment to providing a safe environment for both local and international fans. It also underscores the Kingdom’s ambition to shine on both the African and global stage, by hosting a well-organized and secure tournament.
