Morocco is stepping up efforts to attract Indian tourists, promoting the country at a tourism event held in Mumbai alongside the 2026 Outbound Travel Market (OTM) fair.
The meeting was organised by the Moroccan National Tourist Office to raise Morocco’s profile in Asia and strengthen links between Moroccan and Indian tourism operators.
Morocco’s ambassador to India, Mohamed Maliki, said tourist arrivals from India rose by 31 percent in 2025 compared with 2024, and were up 224 percent on 2019 levels. He said the growth remained below the market’s full potential and expected further increases in the coming years.
The ambassador said Morocco offers diverse experiences across its regions and has a high rate of repeat visitors. He also highlighted the country’s growing role as a filming location for international productions, including Indian films.
The event presented Morocco’s tourism offer, including its cultural heritage, imperial cities, desert landscapes, coastlines and Atlas mountains. Adventure tourism, tailored travel services and accommodation options were also promoted.
More than 200 hosted buyers, tourism professionals and specialist media attended the event. Cultural presentations included traditional music, a tea ceremony, calligraphy and henna demonstrations, and displays of Moroccan dress.
The OTM fair runs until Saturday and brings together more than 2,100 exhibitors from over 60 countries, with more than 50,000 industry visitors. Morocco has a 200-square-metre stand hosting nine inbound travel agencies.
Industry data shows Indian travellers spent about $31.7bn abroad in 2024. Outbound trips from India are projected to reach 80 to 90 million a year, making it the largest source market in the Asia-Pacific region.
