The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has denied reports that national team head coach Walid Regragui has resigned, following widespread media claims originating from French outlets and relayed by Moroccan media.
In a brief statement published on Friday, the federation said Regragui “has never submitted his resignation” and remains in his post as head coach of the national team.
The clarification comes after nearly two days of speculation suggesting that Regragui had decided to step down following Morocco’s 1–0 defeat to Senegal in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Several reports, citing French media including Foot Mercato and RMC Sport, claimed the 50-year-old coach was considering leaving his role due to fatigue and pressure after the tournament. Some outlets went further, suggesting the federation was weighing whether to accept or reject a resignation that, according to the FRMF, was never submitted.
Despite the absence of any public statement from Regragui, the reports were widely republished, with some media speculating about potential successors and possible moves to clubs in Saudi Arabia.
The FRMF did not provide further detail but said Regragui is expected to continue his role as Morocco prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Phrases such as “reportedly,” “according to sources,” and “said to be” were repeatedly used as shields, allowing outlets to publish unverified claims while avoiding responsibility for their accuracy. Moroccan media, rather than interrogating the story, largely echoed it.
No further comment has been made by the coach or the federation.
