Morocco’s tourism sector is on the rise, with 2024 investments expected to reach a substantial 8 billion dirhams (MMDH), aiming to add 7,700 new hotel beds. Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor highlighted these developments in Parliament, stating that the investment surge is a core component of Morocco’s 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, focused on expanding and enhancing accommodation and entertainment options across the country.
Minister Ammor outlined several key initiatives, including “Cap Hospitality,” a program offering interest-free loans, fully covered by the state, to encourage the expansion of Morocco’s tourist infrastructure. Already, 72 applications have been submitted through an online platform, demonstrating strong interest from investors.
Another strategic initiative, “Go Siyaha,” supports businesses involved in tourist entertainment and activities. So far, 256 investment projects have been approved under this program, underscoring Morocco’s commitment to creating a richer, more diverse tourist experience.
The results are already visible: from January to September, Morocco saw a record-breaking 13.1 million tourist arrivals, 2 million more than the same period in 2023. This influx has also translated into economic gains, with foreign currency revenue up by 7%, reaching 76.4 billion dirhams, while overnight stays climbed to 21 million—a 10% increase.
These achievements stem from both the substantial investments made in the sector and the implementation of Morocco’s tourism roadmap on a regional level. Eight regional agreements have been signed to bolster local tourism efforts across Fès-Meknès, Beni Mellal-Khénifra, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma, Drâa-Tafilalet, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Souss-Massa, the Oriental region, and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra.
This wave of investment and strategic planning not only supports Morocco’s goal of accommodating more visitors but also reinforces the country’s standing as a top destination by enhancing its hospitality offerings and cultural experiences. With this momentum, Morocco is solidifying its reputation as a prime destination for travelers worldwide.
