Nasser Bourita meets South African delegation to discuss economic cooperation

Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, met with a South African delegation on Monday in Rabat. The delegation was led by Obed Bapela, Vice President of the International Relations Committee of the African National Congress (ANC).

Following their discussions, Bapela emphasized the need to intensify economic and trade relations between South Africa and Morocco. He called on Moroccan companies to invest in South Africa, pointing out that many South African firms are already operating in Morocco.

On the multilateral front, Bapela welcomed Morocco’s return to the African Union, stating that it provides an opportunity for both nations to collaborate on addressing Africa’s challenges.

Bapela also took the opportunity to recall Morocco’s support for South Africa’s fight for independence, noting that Morocco was among the first countries visited by Nelson Mandela in 1994. Mandela’s visit was to express gratitude to the Moroccan people for their contribution to South Africa’s liberation and to explore ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
