
The new Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat is one step closer to opening after a new 116 million dirham ($11.6 million) contract was launched for electrical work. The contract is the 15th part of the project. It covers the 33-storey main tower, the medico-technical block and other buildings across the hospital site.
Workers will install the electrical systems needed to run the hospital. The work includes backup generators, lightning protection, grounding systems and the main power distribution network.
The electrical network will supply power to medical equipment, safety systems, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, medical gas systems, pneumatic tube networks and other technical equipment. It also includes the hospital’s lighting system.
The contract also covers technical studies, testing, equipment checks, commissioning, compliance inspections, technical documents and staff training before the hospital opens.
The hospital complex includes a 33-storey tower with two underground levels, a medico-technical block, an energy centre, logistics facilities, above-ground and underground parking, and housing for medical interns. A separate 10-storey Consultation and Visit Centre will operate with its own technical systems.
Several other contracts have already been awarded as work moves towards completion. More than 35 million dirhams has been allocated for interior fittings and fixed furniture. Another 38 million dirhams will pay for audiovisual and multimedia equipment, including systems for lecture halls, operating rooms and telemedicine services.
A 24 million dirham contract for internal and external signs was launched in March 2026 to help patients and visitors find their way around the hospital.
Construction began in 2022 under the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP). The new hospital will replace the existing Ibn Sina Hospital, which opened in 1954.
The project is worth about 6 billion dirhams ($600 million). It covers 11.4 hectares and will have almost 190,000 square metres of built space. The hospital will have 1,044 beds.
The design uses natural light and green spaces to reduce energy use. The hospital will also have its own backup power system, dedicated electrical networks for critical care and a pneumatic tube system to move blood samples, medicines and laboratory materials between departments.
The new hospital is expected to improve specialist healthcare, research and advanced medical services across the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
