The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) have signed a natural gas transport agreement, ensuring the supply of ONEE’s gas-fired power plants through the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline (GME).
This agreement solidifies the long-standing collaboration between the two offices, which led to the successful launch of the “Reverse Flow” system in June 2022. This system allows Morocco to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from international markets, unload and regasify it at Spanish terminals, and transport it back to Morocco via the GME pipeline, as detailed in an ONHYM statement.
During the signing, ONHYM Director General Amina Benkhadra and ONEE Director General Tarik Hamane expressed their satisfaction with the continued coordination between their teams and praised the quality of ONHYM’s service, provided through its subsidiary, OMCo.
