RS Berkane are close to signing Cape Verde head coach Bubista and veteran goalkeeper Vozinha after their impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The Moroccan club are looking for a new coach after Mouine Chaabani left. Bubista is expected to take over, while the club are also preparing an offer for Vozinha.
Vozinha was close to joining Chilean club Colo-Colo. The club even announced his arrival on social media. But his move was delayed three times and has not been completed.
RS Berkane now hope to sign the 40-year-old goalkeeper alongside Bubista, who led Cape Verde to their first World Cup.
Bubista’s record
Bubista, whose full name is Pedro Leitão Brito, has been Cape Verde coach since January 2020.
The 56-year-old is a former Cape Verde captain and defender. He also played for Spanish club CD Badajoz.
He usually sets his teams up in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation, with a strong defence and quick counter-attacks.
He has managed Cape Verde in 67 official matches.
In 2023, he guided the team to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. Cape Verde did not concede a goal in open play during the knockout stage before losing to South Africa on penalties.
Cape Verde qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time after beating Eswatini 3-0 in October 2025.
The team stayed unbeaten in the 2026 World Cup group stage with draws against Spain (0-0), Uruguay (2-2) and Saudi Arabia (0-0). Cape Verde then reached the Round of 32 for the first time.
Vozinha’s World Cup
Vozinha, whose full name is Josimar José Évora Dias, has made more than 90 appearances for Cape Verde since his debut against Cameroon in 2012.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper is 1.89m tall and has played for clubs in Cyprus, Portugal and Slovakia, including AEL Limassol, GD Chaves and AS Trenčín.
He made history at the 2026 World Cup by becoming the oldest player to make his debut in a country’s first World Cup match. He was 40 years and 12 days old.
Vozinha played every minute of Cape Verde’s four matches. He made 18 saves and finished with a 78.3% save percentage.
He kept clean sheets against Spain and Saudi Arabia.
He was named Player of the Match after making seven saves against eventual champions Spain. He also made eight saves in a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Argentina in the Round of 32.
His performances earned him a place in the FIFA 2026 Fan Dream XI All-Star Team.
