Severe thunderstorms expected in several Moroccan provinces this weekend

The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an updated weather alert, warning of severe thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds expected to hit multiple provinces from Friday through Sunday. According to the alert, extremely heavy rains (80-150 mm) are forecasted from Friday at 4:00 PM to Sunday at 11:00 PM in the provinces of Zagora, Tinghir, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, and Tata. The DGM has classified this alert at the “red” vigilance level.

Additionally, heavy thunderstorms (60-90 mm) are expected in the provinces of Assa-Zag and Es-Semara on Saturday, between 10:00 AM and 11:00 PM.

Other regions, including Figuig, Taroudant, Midelt, Azilal, and Al Haouz, are forecasted to receive moderate thunderstorms (30-60 mm) from Friday at 4:00 PM to Sunday at 11:00 PM. The provinces of Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, and Tiznit will experience similar weather conditions on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM, under an “orange” vigilance level alert.

Authorities advise residents in the affected areas to exercise caution and stay updated on weather developments throughout the weekend.
