Stellantis is selling its Free2move car-sharing business to German investment firm Mutares as it sharpens its focus on making cars and developing new automotive technologies.

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and other standard closing conditions.

The sale is part of Stellantis’ FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, which focuses investment on the company’s core automotive business, brands and technologies with the strongest growth potential.

Free2move runs a 24-hour car-sharing service through a mobile app in 14 cities across Europe and the United States. Customers can rent vehicles for both short and long periods.

Mutares plans to use the business as the foundation of a new mobility platform. It intends to improve the management of Free2move’s international fleet, speed up the shift to electric vehicles and enhance the customer experience as demand for urban mobility changes.

The sale will allow Free2move to operate as an independent company with greater flexibility and dedicated resources to expand its car-sharing business.
