Success of Vaccination Campaign Behind Govt's Decision to Ease Restrictions - Spokesman

The success of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 and the decline in infections by the virus in Morocco have been the reasons behind the government’s decision to undertake a series of relief measures, including the lifting of the night curfew throughout the country, Government Spokesman Mustapha Baitas said on Thursday in Rabat.

The measures announced by the government at the beginning of this week come after more than 24 million Moroccans had received their anti-COVID-19 vaccine shots and a very significant decline in number of infections had been recorded, Baitas explained during a press briefing at the end of the Government Council, held under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

He added that the vaccine pass and the vaccination of more than 24 million Moroccans have allowed the improvement of the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom, adding that vaccination remains the only way out of this global health crisis.

Baitas pointed out that the government works to ease, at the appropriate time, restrictions based on the recommendations of the scientific committee and data from the Ministry of Health on the epidemiological situation in Morocco, noting that the Executive is in dire need of a return to normal economic activity.

The government official also stressed the need for compliance with preventive measures to avoid any relapse, as it is the case in several European countries.
