Irish mining company Talisman Metals has found a new surface copper zone at its Tirzzit Copper Project in Morocco, about two kilometres beyond the known mineralised area. The discovery comes ahead of the company’s first drilling programme, planned for later this summer.
The new zone was found during geological mapping and field surveys at the project, around 225 kilometres east of Agadir.
The company has taken channel samples from the new outcrops to measure the width, grade and direction of the copper mineralisation. Test results are expected in the coming weeks and will help decide where drilling will begin.
The Tirzzit project covers 16.5 square kilometres under two mining licences. It is a sediment-hosted stratiform copper-silver deposit.
Talisman agreed to buy the project in February from a wholly owned subsidiary of Aya Silver & Gold. Aya still owns a 4.7% stake in Talisman. The transfer of the mining licences has not yet been completed.
The company is also reviewing historical exploration records and geophysical survey data before starting drilling in the third quarter of 2026.
