TGCC has won a 562.7 million dirham contract to build the Marrakech-Guéliz railway station and a maintenance centre for the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail line.
The contract is part of the wider project to extend the high-speed rail network from Kenitra to Marrakech. It covers the third package of works, which includes stations, maintenance centres and servicing facilities.
TGCC beat Moroccan construction group SGTM, which bid 572.8 million dirhams. The winning offer was the lowest that met all technical requirements. It was still above ONCF’s estimated budget of 490 million dirhams.
The new Marrakech-Guéliz station will be one of the main stops on the future high-speed line. It is expected to handle more passengers travelling to and from Marrakech and will connect high-speed trains with conventional rail services and other forms of urban transport.
The maintenance centre will inspect, service and repair high-speed trains. Built at the southern end of the line, it will provide the technical facilities needed to keep the trains running.
The station and maintenance centre are part of the larger Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail project. The programme includes new railway infrastructure, upgraded stations and new maintenance facilities. Once complete, the line will extend the existing Tangier-Casablanca high-speed route south to Marrakech.
