On December 5, 2025, the Casablanca Technopark became the launchpad for a bold new initiative aimed at reshaping the future of artificial intelligence in Morocco. The inaugural Women in AI Morocco Summit marked the official launch of Women in AI Morocco, a movement dedicated to empowering women in the AI field through training, mentorship, networking, and talent recognition.
Dr. Sofia Ghacham, President of Women in AI Morocco, emphasized the urgency of the initiative in today’s rapidly evolving global tech landscape. “AI has become a strategic driver of both competitiveness and digital sovereignty,” she said. “Our mission is grounded in three pillars: empowering women through education, raising visibility through role models, and building connections between academia, industry, and institutions. We want women to move beyond being users of AI—they should be creators and leaders in the field.”
Lamiae Benmakhlouf, General Director of Technopark, echoed the importance of nurturing Moroccan women in tech, many of whom already hold key roles at the national level. “Technopark is fully behind this initiative,” she said. “Morocco is home to exceptional female experts in AI, including those in government. This summit is about linking seasoned professionals with rising talents to foster a community committed to responsible and ethical AI development.”
Also attending the summit was Marissa Scott, the U.S. Consul General in Casablanca, who highlighted the growing role of Moroccan women in technology and the strong support they receive from American tech companies. “I’m honored to be here to champion women in AI, alongside U.S. companies like Microsoft, AWS, and IBM, who are actively supporting Moroccan women as they pursue their goals. We’re committed to working hand-in-hand to promote innovation and female empowerment.”
With this new chapter, Women in AI Morocco aims to build a vibrant and inclusive community that not only uplifts women in the present but also prepares them to lead in the AI-powered future. In doing so, the initiative is helping to position Morocco at the intersection of gender equity, technological advancement, and economic transformation.
