World Power-to-X Summit 2024: Morocco strengthens position in green hydrogen

Under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI and the guidance of Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, key institutions—including the Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), the Green H2 Cluster, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN)—announce the World Power-to-X Summit 2024. The event will be held on October 8-9 at the Marrakech Congress Palace.

The summit will highlight the latest developments in large-scale green hydrogen projects and financing opportunities for clean energy initiatives. In alignment with Morocco’s royal directives for green hydrogen development, the fourth edition of the summit will showcase the “Morocco Green Hydrogen Offer,” launched on March 11, 2024. This initiative reflects Morocco’s commitment to accelerated decarbonization and its ambition to become a global hub for competitively producing green hydrogen and its derivatives.

From pilot projects to industrial initiatives and regulatory frameworks, the summit will emphasize the significant progress made under this ambitious plan.

Samir Rachidi, Director of IRESEN, expressed pride in the summit’s role in advancing Morocco’s energy transition. “The World Power-to-X Summit reflects our commitment to supporting the national strategy for sustainable energy. IRESEN is proud to lead this high-level platform for regional political and economic dialogue, showcasing market-driven innovation and applied research at the core of partnerships across industries.”

Mohammed Yahya Zniber, President of the Green H2 Cluster, emphasized the summit’s strategic value, stating, “The Green H2 Cluster is honored to co-organize this event, which promotes Morocco’s green hydrogen industry. The summit provides a vital opportunity to build a dynamic ecosystem, support innovation, and reinforce Morocco’s position on the global green hydrogen stage.”

UM6P President Hicham El Habti highlighted the university’s role, saying, “This summit offers a major opportunity to explore the latest advances in Power-to-X and green hydrogen. UM6P is committed to training experts and advancing research to support Morocco’s ambition and leadership in this field.”

Tarik Ameziane Moufaddal, CEO of MASEN, outlined the country’s strategic goals: “Thanks to King Mohammed VI’s vision, Morocco is a key player in renewable energy development and aims to solidify its role as a green hydrogen hub. The summit is an opportunity to present Morocco’s offer and meet with investors, showcasing the strong incentives and ambitious projects that will position the Kingdom as a competitive player in this future-focused industry.”

With over 170 speakers, including experts, researchers, and industry leaders, the summit will gather more than 1,000 participants from 35 countries. These attendees, including policymakers and innovators, will engage in 25 sessions exploring the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in Power-to-X and green hydrogen technologies. The event promises a global perspective on the critical issues shaping the future of sustainable energy.

The World Power-to-X Summit 2024 will serve as a key platform for transitioning from pilot concepts to large-scale production while fostering cross-border collaboration between neighboring countries and regions.
