Morocco overtakes Spain and Tunisia in french summer bookings

Morocco has emerged as the top international destination for French travelers heading abroad in summer 2025. According to data from the French Travel Companies Observatory (EDV), reviewed by Barlamane.com, 38% of travel agencies surveyed identified Morocco as their leading destination for summer bookings. That figure places the country well ahead of Tunisia, which garnered 27%, and Spain, at 23%.

Analysts attribute Morocco’s strong showing to two key advantages: excellent air connectivity and consistently favorable weather—both crucial factors for vacationers. The survey, which covered more than 600 travel agencies across France, underscores Morocco’s growing appeal as a reliable and accessible holiday option.

Despite the surge in interest abroad, France remains the most popular overall destination. Domestic trips account for 57% of planned getaways, with the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts leading the charge. The report highlights the depth and clarity of France’s local tourism offerings as reasons why many travelers continue to favor home-grown escapes.

April 2025, however, saw a slight dip in travel volume compared to the same period in 2024, with a 2% drop in total departures. That decline hasn’t impacted the bottom line, though. Travel revenues actually rose by 7%, signaling a trend toward more premium vacations. The average trip cost now stands at 868 euros—up 6% from the previous year, which translates to roughly 9,550 Moroccan dirhams.

Other European destinations are also seeing strong momentum. Italy posted a 20% increase in booking value, while Greece and Portugal followed with growth of 10% and 9%, respectively. Outside Europe, Turkey continues its comeback with a 6% gain, and the Dominican Republic—still below pre-pandemic levels—registered a promising 20% surge.
