The prestigious Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat has become the center of the golfing world this week, hosting the fourth stop of the 2025 International Series—a key fixture on the global golf calendar that runs through July 6. This Moroccan leg, one of ten major tournaments in the series, plays a crucial role in the race for the overall standings, offering top performers a coveted path to the LIV Golf League.
This tournament follows the momentum of the recent Morocco Rising Stars event in Marrakech, part of the Asian Development Tour. Now, 156 professional golfers from across the globe are battling for a $2 million prize on the legendary red course in Rabat, known for its challenging layout and history. Beyond the intense competition, the event also serves as a platform for showcasing the next generation of Moroccan golf talent.
Morocco is proudly represented by eight homegrown players, including five professionals—Ayoub Lguirati, El Mehdi Fakori, Soufiane Dahmane, Amine El Kharraz, and Othman Raouzi—alongside three amateurs: Hugo Trommetter, Youssef El Hali, and Reda El Hali. Their presence underscores the country’s growing investment in the sport and its commitment to nurturing young talent.
The tournament has attracted several global stars, headlined by 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, as well as Peter Uihlein, Andy Ogletree, Mito Pereira, and defending champion Ben Campbell. Campbell, who has two Asian Tour victories under his belt including the 2023 Link Hong Kong Open, approached this event with a clear focus. Speaking to the press, he acknowledged the pleasant memories of last year’s win but emphasized the need to stay present and concentrate on the challenges ahead. For Campbell, accuracy is everything on this demanding course—hitting fairways and finding greens will be essential to success.
Ayoub Lguirati, widely considered the face of Moroccan golf, praised the strides made in developing the sport within the country. He highlighted the enthusiasm of young players and the solid backing they receive from the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation, inspired by the vision of Prince Moulay Rachid. According to Lguirati, increased support and the hosting of international tournaments like this one are vital for Moroccan golfers to reach the next level.
Bringing this tournament to Morocco is further evidence of the country’s growing appeal to major institutions like the Asian Tour, which now sees Morocco as an important and recurring destination on the global golf map. As the eighth stop on the 2025 Asian Tour—following events in India, Macao, and Japan—this Rabat tournament cements Morocco’s place in the professional golf world and opens doors for a new generation of rising stars.
