OCP and Bangladesh strengthen agricultural ties with major fertilizer agreement

OCP Group, through its subsidiary OCP Nutricrops, has taken another significant step forward in its longstanding partnership with Bangladesh by signing a major supply agreement for 1.1 million tonnes of fertilizers with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). This new deal, covering the years 2025 and 2026, reinforces a collaboration that began 17 years ago and reflects the deepening ties between the two parties.

An official Bangladeshi delegation, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and BADC, traveled to Morocco to formalize the agreement. The visit also opened the door to broader discussions on future cooperation in agricultural research, education, and technological innovation—areas both countries see as key to transforming farming practices and boosting productivity.

During their stay, the delegation toured the Al Jorf industrial complex, the world’s largest fertilizer production platform, as well as the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), which serves as the centerpiece of OCP’s applied research efforts. These visits highlighted OCP’s unique integrated approach, combining cutting-edge science with industrial strength to support global agriculture.

At the heart of this partnership lies a commitment to tailor-made solutions designed to meet the specific needs of Bangladesh’s agricultural soils. The goal is to support the country’s transition to more resilient, sustainable farming systems through scientific knowledge and technology transfer. Between 2019 and 2023, OCP’s Foundation has already trained nearly 15,000 farmers in Bangladesh—including over 4,400 women—in best agricultural practices, underlining the human dimension of this cooperation.

For Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops, this new agreement is a clear sign of the strength and trust underpinning this relationship and the shared desire to take cooperation to the next level.

The BADC, led by Ruhul Amin Khan, plays a pivotal role in securing Bangladesh’s agricultural supply chain and aligns closely with national policy objectives related to sustainability and food security. Khan praised Morocco’s continued support and the role of OCP, while expressing his intention to broaden the partnership beyond fertilizer supply to include logistics, skill development, and agricultural innovation.

More than just a commercial deal, this renewed commitment reflects a shared vision for building self-sufficient and sustainable agriculture. It also underscores OCP’s strategic focus on strengthening South-South partnerships by fostering long-term alliances with emerging economies, where agriculture remains a cornerstone of development and economic resilience.
