Chinese EV brand Leapmotor lands in Morocco with Stellantis

Stellantis Morocco is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of Leapmotor, a Chinese electric carmaker that is officially entering the Moroccan market. Known for its smart, fully electric vehicles, Leapmotor is stepping onto the international stage through a joint venture with Stellantis, giving the company a springboard for its global ambitions.

Founded in 2015 by tech entrepreneur Jiangming Zhu, Leapmotor has quickly become one of the most dynamic players in China’s electric vehicle industry. In less than a decade, it has sold over 600,000 cars, and it now has its sights set on hitting half a million units annually starting this year.

The company’s Moroccan debut will benefit from Stellantis’ established commercial network and its strict industrial standards, which provide a strong foundation in a market that is still taking shape. Leapmotor’s pitch is centered on technology designed to remove the usual barriers to EV adoption. A key example is its REEV system, which pairs a small combustion engine with a battery. The engine never drives the wheels—it only recharges the battery—ensuring the car always operates as a true electric vehicle, while eliminating range anxiety.

This approach could prove particularly relevant in Morocco, where charging infrastructure is still developing at a modest pace. By offering a solution that combines accessibility, energy efficiency, and ease of use, Leapmotor aims to position itself as a practical and sustainable choice for local drivers.

The brand will make its first public appearance in the country at the Auto Expo 2025, scheduled from September 18 to 28 at Casablanca’s Anfa Park. Sales and distribution will be handled by Sopriam, Stellantis Morocco’s official retail network.

Leapmotor’s strategy is to establish a long-term presence in the Moroccan market, gradually scaling up while placing strong emphasis on service, quality, and affordability. For Stellantis Morocco, bringing in this new brand is part of a broader commitment to promoting cleaner mobility in line with Morocco’s energy transition goals.
