Morocco’s nationwide rollout of 5G has taken off at a pace few could have predicted, marking one of the fastest launches of its kind anywhere in the world. Just a week into deployment, the country has already registered seven million active 5G devices connected to a network supported by over 6,000 base stations across 60 cities—a scale and speed rarely seen globally, according to industry sources.
And this is only the beginning. By the end of December, the network is expected to expand to 8,200 operational stations, underscoring the sector’s aggressive push for broad and dense coverage in record time.
The commercial landscape has rapidly adapted to match the infrastructure rollout. Across all carriers, there are now around 100 different 5G plans on the market. The prepaid segment, in particular, has seen dramatic changes. Data volumes have more than doubled for the same prices, with some packages offering 11GB for 50 dirhams—up from just 5GB previously. Notably, this pricing shift applies to both 4G and 5G plans, signaling a broader market recalibration.
Postpaid offers have also been upgraded. Without raising prices, operators have increased average data allowances by 20%. Some plans now include access to multimedia content, reflecting a clear move toward premium services and a more robust digital experience for subscribers.
The 5G rollout is quickly becoming a defining moment in Morocco’s digital transformation. The country is not only embracing next-generation mobile technology, but doing so with a level of urgency and efficiency that’s setting a new global benchmark.
